QuickBooks error H202 appears due to a terminating server connection, which is a multi-user mode error. The H202 error indicates that the company file is stored on an external device that the user’s computer cannot access. It shows that the server requires assistance to connect. A user also cannot access or open files on other computers.

Sometimes, this error occurs, mainly due to connectivity issues. QuickBooks cannot establish a connection with the original file destination and is unable to open the file. Multiple file uses aren’t possible in this case due to security reasons.

The cause of QuickBooks Error H202 can vary.

  • Hosting settings are not configured.
  • A firewall is blocking access.
  • It is not possible to establish the Domain Name System correctly.
  • No IP address is available for the host or the server.
  • Both QuickbooksDBXX and QBFC Monitor are failing.
  • Network data files, or .ND files, are either lost or missing.

Solutions to Quickbooks Error H202

Method 1: Resolving the hosting to local files

  • The first step is to open QuickBooks software by pressing the F2 key.
  • Choose Hosting below Local Server Information to show only local files.
  • You need to ensure that no other client uses your company file.

Method 2: Checking Network Connectivity

  • Firstly, turn off the hosting on all the workstations.
  • Select the name of your server from the workstation.
  • Tap Enter after entering the server name.

Method 3: Removing and recreating the .ND file

  • Press Ctrl + R to open the Run window and then enter *.ND.
  • Next, right-click the .ND file and select Delete from the menu that appears.
  • After deleting the file, tap on Start
  • Go to All Programs > QuickBooks > QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
  • Click on the Scan Folder tab.
  • To add a new folder, simply tap on Add Folder and choose the company file you wish to add.
  • Tap OK after selecting the company file. This company file can be found in the folders associated with QuickBooks.
  • You can now perform a scan by tapping on Start Scanning.
  • Tap on Close when the scanning is complete.

Method 4: Hosting Own Network

Using the following instructions, the user can install the QuickBooks database server manager on each version of the QuickBooks software they are currently using if they have not already done so. The following steps must be completed after the database server manager is installed:

QuickBooks database server manager can be configured in two ways:

  • Using the Full Program option, you can install the full version of QuickBooks software and the database server manager on the server.
  • Using the Server-Only option, the user can install the database server manager only on the server system.
